COMING SOON…

–        DO YOU WANT TO LEARN MORE ABOUT HOW YOUR CHILD’S COMMUNICATION SKILLS DEVELOP?

–        DO YOU WANT TO GAIN HELPFUL TIPS ABOUT HOW YOU CAN HELP YOUR CHILD DEVELOP SUCH SKILLS?

THEN PLEASE JOIN US AT OUR FREE INFORMATION EVENINGS…
We are very excited to announce that we will be running a free information evening each school term to provide valuable information regarding a range of communication topics in an engaging and easy to understand format.

Topics for the information evenings in 2014 are listed below:
Term 3 – Phonological Awareness
> This refers to an understanding that spoken words are made up of smaller ‘units’ of sound. It involves a number of skills, such as identifying the different sounds in words and completing tasks that require a child to change particular sounds in words. Phonological awareness skills are important for learning to read and write as children come to develop an awareness of letters and their relationship to sounds.

Term 4 – Social Skill Development

> Social skills refer to both the verbal and non-verbal communication acts that are necessary for effective interpersonal relations. This involves such skills as initiating, maintaining and ending conversations, turn-taking, sharing, asking questions, answering and talking on topic, as well as non-verbal communication including eye contact, body language and gestures (to name a few!) Effective social skills are critical to ensuring your child is able to engage appropriately and develop positive relationships with friends, teachers, and adults.

These free information evenings are for those looking to deepen their knowledge and understanding of how best to help their child or student. Whether a parent, teacher or educational professional, this information evening will prove highly valuable!

Specific dates to be released shortly – stay tuned!  Feel free to contact Michelle on 0497 847 044 to express your interest or if you would like more information.
